FAQ

Common questions

Everything you need to know about ignition interlock devices in Texas.

An ignition interlock device (IID) is a breathalyzer connected to your vehicle's ignition system. Before the engine starts, you must provide a breath sample. If alcohol is detected, the vehicle will not start. It's designed to prevent driving under the influence and is often required by courts or the Texas DPS.

The duration depends on your specific situation and court order. In Texas, interlock requirements typically range from 6 months to several years. Drager Interlock will help you understand your exact timeline and ensure you meet all compliance requirements.

Costs vary based on your vehicle, installation location, and the length of your required interlock period. We provide transparent pricing with no hidden fees. Call us at (903) 509-9735 for a detailed quote tailored to your situation.

Texas only accepts approved ignition interlock devices from licensed providers. Drager Interlock installs state-approved devices that meet all DPS requirements. We handle the entire process — from selecting the right device to ensuring it's properly calibrated and reporting to the state.

Yes, the device must be installed in the vehicle you plan to drive. You can bring your vehicle to our Tyler location at 3815 Timms St, or we offer mobile service throughout the area. We also perform calibration appointments at our facility or can arrange mobile service.

A failed test simply means the device won't allow the engine to start. It does not trigger a car alarm or lock your doors. Common causes include recent use of mouthwash, hand sanitizer, or certain medications. Our team can help you understand how to avoid false positives and stay compliant.
